Sundae Sunday #125: State Fair of Texas

twitter.com twitter.com facebook.com Every fall the State Fair of Texas opens its gates to unleash its fried food, chaotic midway, and livestock barns for any and everyone to see. This year, I brought my dad along to experience it all. There’s a car show, sculptures made of butter, and an incredibly scary looking dude that my dad strikes up a conversation with. Also, my dad eats “fried Frito pie.” Enjoy! Comment Question: What food would YOU fry? Music: “Fig Leaf Rag- distressed,” “Plucky Daisy,” and “Merry Go Slower” by Kevin Macleod of incompetech.com

Part 1 of 3 – This is a demo/sample of my new T-Mobile Vibrant (Samsung Galaxy S) camcorder in its highest settings, 720p HD mode. THIS TEST IS IN A MOVING CAR. I wanted to check out the ability of the Vibrant’s camcorder to be used for what I call “accident cam.” (That’s where I mount a digital camera on my dashboard and record my car’s movement down the road.) TURN YOUR VOLUME WAY DOWN!!! This film also shows the difference between regular and zoomed modes. I accidentally hit the volume rocker while filming and that activated the camcorder’s zoom feature. Notice how crappy the zoom section looked.

Enemy At The Gates

An all-star cast lights up the screen in this riveting epic hailed as “a vivid dramatization of one of history’s titanic turning points”. (Gene Shalit, TODAY). The year is 1942 and the Nazis are cutting a deadly swath through Russia. Under the leadership of Kruschev (Bob Hoskins), the citizens of Stalingrad are mounting a brave resistance, spurred by the exploits of their local hero, Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law). An expert sniper, Vassili’s deeds have become legendary – thanks to propaganda produced by Vassili’s best friend, a political officer named Danilov (Joseph Fiennes). To stop Vassili, the Germans dispatch their best sniper, Major Konig (Ed Harris), to Stalingrad. When Vassili and Danilov both fall in love with a beautiful soldier (Rachel Weisz), Danilov deserts his friend, leaving Vassili to face his German counterpart alone. As the city burns, Vassili and Konig begin a cunning game of cat and mouse, waging a private war for courage, honor and country.

The German Autobahns are famous for being some of the few public roads in the world without blanket speed limits for cars. Nevertheless the overall road traffic safety of the German motorway system is comparable to that of other Western-European highways. But as proven this week, it doesn’t take much to get into an accident, especially when you are driving very fast. A new BMW M5 (F10) with the speed limiter removed was driving at top speed on the A81 between Tuningen and Villingen-Schwenningen (not far from the Swiss border). Due to another driver who joined the traffic and didn’t noticed the speeding BMW approaching in his mirror, the driver of the M5 was forced to brake and swerve his car. The M5 lost control, smashed into the median barrier, shot across the Autobahn, rolled over several times and came to a rest in the grass before catching fire. The driver of the car which didn’t noticed the upcoming BMW fled the scene of the accident. The two sons of the crashed driver, who were driving a BMW M3 and M6, stopped and were able to help their father and passengers, and put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The 60-year-old driver, the 20-year-old passenger and a dog in the backseat were all quite bad injured and have been hospitalized. Quite remarkable, considering the speed they were driving this also shows how safety of cars has been improved over the years. But as this crash proves, you always have to pay attention on the Autobahn. Accidents like this one will

FOR MORE INFORMATION: www.AskaLawyer411.com What started out as a stroll down the street ended up with Alex Arias in the hospital. The 22-year-old South Sacramento resident was viciously attacked by two 100-pound Italian Cane Corsos like these here. One dog clamped down on his arm and wouldn’t let go. It was several minutes before a car passed by and hit the two dogs so they would release their hold on Arias. He hopped on top of the car and it drove off as the dogs gave chase. Animal Services picked up the dogs but the owner who only identified himself as Junior is refusing to put the dogs down. He uses the dogs to guard his home and says the dogs got out of a fenced yard by biting a hole through the gate. Meanwhile, Arias will undergo surgery to repair the damage to his arms. It’s unknown how long his recover will take. My thoughts and prayers are with Alex Arias at this time and I’m praying for a full and speedy recovery. If you have any information about this attack please call the Sacramento Police Dept. at (916) 433-0620. If you have any thoughts about this accident you would like to share please leave them in our comments section below. I’m Patrick Steinfeld for Ask a Lawyer 411.
